Holy Land USA was built in the 1950s in Waterbury, Connecticut — a popular theme park that drew thousands of visitors each year. The attorney John Greco, inspired by the mountain shrines of his Italian childhood, built it as something similar on American soil. After Greco's death the site fell into disrepair, but a group of enthusiasts have taken on its renovation. In 2019, the inaugural Easter Mass was held there. I photographed and wrote about it for American Trails Magazine.
